Handmade Lampwork Glass Beads - Information Page
On the following pages, we feature some of our handmade glass beads, made right here in our studio by the lake, using a torch and Italian made Moretti Effetre glass rods. The process, which is centuries old, is called "Lampwork," and it is fascinating! The glass is heated on the torch until it is molten, then wound around metal mandrels, which are coated with a clay like substance to permit the bead later to be removed. Then we decorate the beads with more glass, fine silver, 22k gold, and/or enamels. The finished beads are annealed in a fire brick kiln for many hours overnight, which makes them extremely durable.
If you are interested in learning more about the ancient art of making lampwork glass beads, please visit the website of The International Society of Glass Beadmakers, of which we are a member. They have a wonderful forum and weekly chats!
We use most of our beads in our handmade sterling silver and lampwork jewelry designs. Click here to view or purchase our handcrafted lampwork bead and sterling silver jewelry. Also, we use our beads in our exotic lampwork and gemstone treasure charm bracelets, which are stunning, so please make sure to take a look!
Not all beads will be available for purchase, please email us to inquire. For the encased, striped, floral and faux stone beads, prices range from $15.00 to $40.00 each depending on size and torch time. Just make a note of the beads you are interested in and email us or call us at 337-474-4712 to determine availability and prices.
We will also turn any of our beads into a pendant for you, using sterling silver wire and a sterling silver chain or satin cord. As an example, here is one of our lampwork heart bead pendants on a sterling chain. We can also add your favorite bead as a dangle to one of our beautiful, handmade sterling silver "curly chain" bracelets. Here's our handmade curly chain bracelet with one of our 20mm "Blue Eyes" lampwork beads.
We will also turn any of our focal beads, or even your own favorite focal bead, into a gorgeous handmade sterling silver bangle bracelet or choker. See some examples of our focal bead showcase bracelet here. View or purchase lampwork bead and sterling chokers here.
